George House Memorial Scholarship Award

George House is the father of Canada Topflight Academy (CTA) Founder Tony House. George was born and raised in Ottawa, an absolute staple in the community, coming from humble beginnings and having grown up in the “village”. Like many, George used sports to ensure he would stay on the right course. He attended Glebe Collegiate and Carleton University, winning City/League Championships and starring on their basketball teams. He was selected Athlete of the Year at Carleton University in 1958-59 and was the first class of inductees voted into the Ravens Hall of Fame in 1996. He was also the perfect example of what a student-athlete should be, earning a law degree, becoming a prominent lawyer and Deputy Judge for 45 years. George loved his basketball, coaching the University of Ottawa in the mid ’60s and was also an Executive Board member for both Canada Basketball and Tennis Canada. A proud Carleton Raven Alum he was a life-long season ticket holder and will ever be remembered for the Carleton University men’s House-Laughton Basketball Tournament.

The George House Memorial Scholarship Award is an annual award, providing a full scholarship to a deserving young student-athlete to attend Canada Topflight Academy. The scholarship will go to a student-athlete who will best emulate all the amazing character traits that George House conveyed throughout his life. CTA provides numerous student-athletes with financial aid in order to provide life-changing opportunities for deserving youth in our community.

Canada Topflight Academy gives student-athletes an opportunity to achieve their academic goals through ongoing school support and study halls, their sports and physical fitness goals by providing elite-level coaches and expert training and personal growth through teamwork, accountability, responsibility and community involvement.
